Water Management

Changi Airport Facility Management team uses rainwater harvesting technology in which it collects and stores rainwater for non-potable domestic use and human use.

With this system, rainwater collected and treated accounts for 28-33% of the total water used, resulting in $390,00 of savings annually.

Energy Performance

Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) announced the Zero Energy Building (ZEB) opening on BCA’s campus. BCAA uses a displacement ventilation system of which air is supplied at low velocity to the occupied zone, usually near the floor.

Initial modeling estimated energy usage to be 206.6 MWh, whereas the building’s annual actual usage is 183 MWh.

The building will save S$84,000 (based on an electricity rate of 21.69 Singapore cents/kWh) a year in energy cost compared to a typical office in Singapore.

Energy Modelling Software

As buildings are invested in smart technologies, the Facility Manager may adopt the use of Energy Modelling Software such as IES Virtual Environment to simulate and analyze data.

Its main aim is to improve building performance and with the information attained from the software, it can influence designers and building owners in making smarter and sustainable decisions.
